Living in a residential or nursing home

The purpose of the survey is to get a better understanding of what people value about life in a residential care home or nursing home. For a long time it has been assumed that living in a home is second best, a perspective that may undermine those who live and work in homes. There is no doubt that there are thousands of people who enjoy life in a home and would rather be there than anywhere else. This survey, conducted by Eskrigge Social Research, is a start in trying to find out what people value about residential life.

This is the first stage in what is planned as a larger project. It is being undertaken without any funding so there are no resources to do anything other than a web based survey. Of course, that is not the best way to collect material from older people in homes but hopefully clues will emerge to help the planning of the larger project for which funding is being sought. (If you have suggestions for funding, please contact Roger Clough.)

The project aims to get a picture of what people value in residential life. So everyone who has an interest is welcome to write in but it is the views of older people and their relatives that are sought in particular.

As this is a web based questionnaire, we do need you to complete details about yourself so that we can be sure that the information is coming from real people. However, no names will be used in any report, the data collected will be stored safely and names will be removed from any stored data at the end of the project. Please get in touch if you have any concerns.

Please click the appropriate box or type in your answers. The survey should take about fifteen minutes to complete but may take longer if you write in-depth. There are places to add your own comments.
